UPDATE: The Ludington Police Department states that there will be no barge or tug movement on the PM Lake and no ice breaking activity. All anglers are free to resume as normal.

LUDINGTON — The barge that was originally scheduled to travel in Pere Marquette Lake beginning Tuesday morning, Jan. 21, was delayed until Thursday night, Jan. 23, according to the Ludington Police Department.

“Tuesday afternoon, LPD was advised that due to mechanical issues, the tug Spartan was unable to conduct ice breaking operations as planned,” states a press release. “The ice breaking is now tentatively scheduled to
begin late Thursday night, Jan. 23, into Friday, Jan. 24. If the ice breaking and barge movement does not occur Thursday night and Friday, we have been advised that the barge and tug will remain in port until spring.
A final determination will be made by the end of business Wednesday.”

Ice anglers who have shanties in the path of the barge need to move their shanties prior to the barge’s arrival.
