LUDINGTON –The West Michigan Community Mental Health board recently hired a Julia Rupp as its new chief executive officer. Rupp replaces Lisa Williams who is leaving the position for a job in Florida.

From 2012 to 2023 Rupp was the CEO of HealthWest behavioral health clinic in Muskegon. Since then she has been the principal of a mental health consulting firm, Hummingbird Consulting Group. From 2004 to 2012 she was chief operations officer of Community Mental Health Center, Inc. and was executive director of chief welfare at The Thresholds from 2000 to 2004.

She has a bachelor’s degree in special education from University of Iowa and a master’s degree in rehabilitation services from DePaul University.

WMCMH board chair Larry Vansickle said board members were excited and confident in Rupp’s leadership abilities.

“Her experience and skills will continue the WMCMH tradition of innovation and excellence for the people and communities we serve.”

Over 70 individuals applied for the position with six selected for interviews by a search committee; two were then forwarded to the board for final interviews.

“It has been an honor to serve as CEO of WMCMH for the past 11 years. I am incredibly proud of all the WMCMH team has accomplished and have full confidence that Julia’s leadership will take the organization to even greater heights,” said Williams. “Her vision and dedication will ensure that WMCMH continues to provide hope, healing, and recovery to the people in our communities.”

“I am honored to be given this opportunity and looking forward to working with the very dynamic and skilled team at WMCMH,” Rupp said. “The reputation of West Michigan Community Mental Health as an innovator, both in the state and across the nation is what attracted me to this position. This is an organization of excellence who has embraced the model of CCBHC (certified community behavioral health clinic) substantially improving access to behavioral health services, providing comprehensive evidenced based services to all members of their communities, and demonstrating positive outcomes through published data benchmarks.”
