Alfred Hiliarion Ardolf, 99, of Ludington, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 1, 2025 at home. He was born December 28, 1925, in Silver Lake, Minnesota, the second eldest of nine children of Frank and Alice (Hoodecheck) Ardolf.
At the age of 18, Alfred enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944 and served aboard the USS Massachusetts during World War II until his honorable discharge on October 31, 1946. Afterwards Alfred moved to Chicago where he got a clerk job with the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad which he held for 37 ½ years until his retirement.
On August 24, 1991, Alfred married the love of his life, Nellie Harms (nee Dillehay) who survives him. He is also survived by his brother, Robert “Bob” Ardolf and his sister, Gerrie Strycharz.
In 2014, Alfred joined the American Legion where made many friends and received help getting the VA benefits that he so deserved.
Alfred was a quiet, kind and generous man who will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Alfred’s family is very grateful to Corewell Palliative and Hospice Care for their care and help in time of need.
A celebration of Alfred’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, January 9, 2024, at Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, Pere Marquette Chapel, with Deacon Leonard Luscomb officiating. Military Honors will be conducted under the auspices of the Edwin H. Ewing American Legion Post #76. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until time of services.
