VICTORY TOWNSHIP — West Shore Community College nursing student Megan Case launched a heartfelt initiative to spread holiday joy to the residents of a local assisted living facility, creating over 120 unique handmade Christmas cards to deliver personal cheer during the holiday season.
“During my clinical experience, I got to know the residents and saw how lonely it can get for them this time of year, especially without visitors,” said Case. “I knew I had to do something special for them during the holidays.”
Case collaborated with Director of Library Services Patti Skinner, and together they received funding from the WSCC’s student senate to support the project. The senate provided the resources necessary for materials to create and decorate the cards, and all WSCC students were able to spend time crafting and personalizing.
Over the course of the initiative, more than 120 cards were carefully created by students. On their final day of clinical training, nursing students personally delivered the handmade holiday cards to the assisted living facility residents, spreading warmth and kindness.
“The goal was simple: to bring holiday cheer and remind the residents that they are cared for,” said Associate Professor of Nursing Megan Sponhauer. “The impact of seeing their faces light up when they received the cards was incredibly rewarding.”
This gesture aimed to foster a sense of connection and comfort during the holiday season, especially for those who may feel isolated or forgotten.
