LUDINGTON — A 50-year-old man was sentenced to one year in jail for a three-count conviction of assaulting/resisting/obstructing police in Mason County’s 51st Circuit Court Tuesday, Dec. 10.
Jeremy Jason Bonneau received credit for 81 days served in jail and was ordered by Judge Susan K. Sniegowski to three years probation. He was prosecuted as a habitual offender.
Bonneau ran away from police officers when they attempted to make contact with him June 3. “He ran — he had a bench warrant, and he ran and they tackled him,” said his attorney Tracie Dinehart. “He didn’t fight with them.”
Bonneau addressed the court during his sentencing, stating that he has changed his ways.
“Definitely when I’m done with this, I want to be a recovery coach,” said Bonneau. “I went to prison at a very young age and a very immature 19 year old.” Growing up without a positive male role model led to his problems, he said. “I got myself in very big trouble right away. I learned from very aggressive male role models in prison.”
Bonneau said that he has spent 12 ½ years of his life in prison.
“Have mercy on me,” he said to Judge Sniegowski. “I am an addict. I don’t want anything to do with alcohol or drugs. I want the opportunity to help people.”
“I am giving you the benefit of the doubt, so can you prove during your three years in probation that you have changed,” said the judge.
