PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — The Mason County Road Commission is in the process of planning a new road that will bypass some of the heavy traffic that occurs at the intersection of US 10 and Jebavy Drive.
In 2026, construction is scheduled to begin on an east-west new road, which will run south of Family Fare from Pere Marquette Highway to South Jebavy Drive. The working name of the road is East Mitchell Street.”
The $1.6 million project includes construction of the new road along with reconstruction of South Jebavy Drive, according to Steve Wessels, manager/director of Mason County Road Commission.
The project will be funded through state along with $450,000 from the road commission and $500,000 from Pere Marquette Charter Township for water and sewer infrastructure.
Additionally, the intersection of US 10 and Jebavy Drive will see changes in traffic lights that will include a left-turn signal for north-south traffic and possibly a right-turn signal as well.
Wessels said the road commission is in the process of purchasing land between Jebavy Drive and Jackson Road with the intention of extending the east-west road to the Ludington city limits.
“Our goal is to build a bypass around that Jebavy/US-10 intersection,” Wessels said. “We have purchased some of the property to the west of Jebavy but are still in conversations with some of the property owners.”
