United Way’s Festival of Trees will be held Dec. 7-15 at Stix Bar

December 3, 2024

HAMLIN TOWNSHIP — The second annual Festival of Trees, to support United Way of Mason County, will be held from Saturday, Dec. 7 to Sunday, Dec. 15 at Stix Bar Biergarten, 1963 N. Lakeshore Dr.

Each decorated tree is sponsored by a local business, group or organization.

Visitors are invited to stroll among the trees, vote for their favorites, and enjoy a variety of free events throughout the festival. Votes can be cast in person during Stix business hours or online via the United Way of Mason County website and Facebook page.

“This event wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of Nickelson’s Tree Farm, which donated the trees, and Stix Bar Biergarten for hosting the festival,” said Lynne Russell, executive director of United Way of Mason County.

Additionally, Western Land Services has pledged to match all votes up to $5,000, doubling the impact of every dollar raised.

Free Events Schedule

  • Saturday, December 7, 7 to 9 p.m.: Kick off the festival with a live holiday concert by local band Groovix Cube. Bundle up and enjoy exclusive Festival of Trees specialty cocktails served in collectible mugs and glasses.
  • Monday, December 9, 7 p.m.: The Letha Fulton School of Dance brings its talent to the stage with a festive performance.
  • Tuesday, December 10, 5:30 p.m.: The Covenant Christian School Choir will fill the air with holiday harmonies amidst the twinkling trees.
  • Wednesday, December 11, 7 p.m.: Special performance by Ludington Area Schools Bands.
  • Sunday, December 15, 3 to 5 p.m.: Wrap up the festival at the Festival of Trees Community Event, featuring activities for all ages including a Book Walk with Mason-Lake-Oceana Great Start Collaborative, balloon characters, free scoops of Rockin’ Rudolph ice cream from House of Flavors, a scavenger hunt, and more. The event is free and family-friendly, with the tree contest winners announced at 5 p.m.

At the close of the festival, the trees will be donated to Mason County families in need, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to experience the joy of Christmas.

Funds raised through tree sponsorships and voting will support the United Way of Mason County’s local programs and services, including 2-1-1, Mason County Family Link, and the Lakeshore Employer Resource Network.

“This might be my favorite event of the year,” said Russell. “It’s a wonderful way to spread Christmas cheer, bring families together, and support programs that make a real difference for our neighbors right here in Mason County. Plus, the creativity of the businesses that decorate the trees never fails to amaze me.”
