A winter storm watch is in effect beginning Wednesday afternoon through late Thursday night.
MASON COUNTY — An Alberta Clipper system is predicted to bring snow squalls, high winds and periods of heavy snow to west Michigan Wednesday and Thursday, Dec. 4 and 5.
The US National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for most of the western half of Michigan. The watch is in effect beginning Wednesday afternoon through late Thursday night.
Expect heavy snow and blowing snow with total accumulations between 3 and 8 inches. Winds could gust as high as 45 mph.
“Visibilities may drop below 1/4 mile due to falling and blowing snow,” states NWS. “The strong winds could cause sporadic power outages. Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Wednesday evening and Thursday commutes.
“Avoid travel if possible. If travel is absolutely necessary, drive with caution and be prepared for sudden changes in visibility. Leave plenty of room between you and the vehicle ahead of you, and allow extra time to reach your destination. Avoid sudden braking or acceleration, and be especially cautious on hills or when making turns. Make sure your car is winterized and in good working order.”
