LUDINGTON — A 48-year-old woman convicted of two counts of first-degree retail fraud was sentenced to 20 months to 10 years in prison Tuesday, Nov. 19, in Mason County’s 51st Circuit Court.

Nicole Lynn Boles pleaded guilty to the felony charges, Oct. 8.

Boles admitted to stealing merchandise from both the Ludington area Walmart and Meijer stores. The thefts occurred over several days and involved “under-ringing” food items and putting clothing items in reusable shopping bags, said Mason County Prosecuting Attorney Beth Hand. The string of thefts occurred about a year ago.

Judge Susan K. Sniegowski said the maximum term for first-degree retail fraud is five years in prison, and with Boles’ habitual offender status, the maximum was elevated to 10 years.

Boles has six prior retail fraud convictions, said Judge Sniegowski, including convictions in Kent and Muskegon counties.

She received credit for two days served in jail and was ordered to pay $852.53 in total restitution in the two criminal cases and a total of $396 in fines and costs.
