Community Foundation offering wish lists for local nonprofits

November 5, 2024

LUDINGTON — As part of philanthropy leadership, the Community Foundation for Mason County recently published its Community Wish Lists. This unique initiative invites local nonprofits to share their immediate funding needs with the community, providing a direct and impactful way for individuals and organizations to make a difference.

This year, 88 wishes have been submitted, totaling over $179,000 in funding requests. These wishes reflect a wide range of needs and opportunities across Mason County, spanning areas like the arts, youth development, the environment, community development, and health and human services.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to support the incredible work of our local nonprofits,” said Andrea Large, executive director of the Community Foundation. “By granting a wish, you can directly impact organizations operating with tight budgets and help them continue to provide vital services to our community.”

For the past seven years, the Community Wish Lists have encouraged the community to directly support vital needs across Mason County. In 2023 alone, 18 wishes were granted totaling nearly $14,000. Riverton Fire Department received one of the wishes, an $800 grant to help protect people and property.

“Michigan Power generously picked up a wish for us to buy a gas-powered backpack blower. We use this to help control and extinguish grass fires. We are so thankful for their donation,” said Joe Cooper, Riverton Fire Department chief.

Individuals and organizations interested in supporting a wish can view the complete list online at www.mason-foundation.org/community-wish-lists. The wishes are categorized by funding level (projects less than $500, projects between $500-$1,500, and those over $1,500) and focus area, making it easy to find a project that fits a particular area of interest and/or financial goal.

The Community Foundation for Mason County encourages everyone to explore the Community Wish Lists and consider granting a wish to support the organizations that help make Mason County a vibrant place to live and work.

If you would like to fulfill a wish and do not have a fund with the Community Foundation, contact the nonprofit organization directly to support a wish. Please also contact Andrea Large at alarge@cffmc.org if you grant a wish so the Foundation can mark it as funded.
