SCOTTVILLE — On Monday, Oct. 7, Mason County Central High School presented the 47th annual H.G. Bacon Academic Excellence Awards during a ceremony at the high school gym. The award was established in school year 1978-1979 in memory of Dr. Herbert G. Bacon, who was an early member and president of the MCC Board of Education and a medical doctor who resided in Scottville. To be eligible to receive the award a student must maintain a 3.33 GPA average each trimester of high school.
Monday’s key note speaker Gary Anderson, an MCC alumnus with the Class of 1970, a retired teacher from the district and a lifelong resident of Mason County. Anderson also has been involved with the MCC Educational Foundation since it began in 1989, the first educational foundation in the county. Anderson’s two sons also graduated from MCC, classes of 2010 and 2013.
