Obituary: Megan Kay Blount, 66, of New Era

Megan Blount

Megan Kay Blount, 66, of New Era passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Sunday, October 6, 2024.  Megan was born on November 3, 1957 at the Paulina Stearns Hospital in Ludington, the daughter of Dr. Austin and Joan (Lederer) Craymer and graduated from Ludington High School with the class of 1976.  Megan furthered her education at Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology and worked many years as a veterinary technician at Country Veterinary Clinic in Ludington.  On November 1, 2009 she married Royce L. Blount and they have celebrated 15 years by each others side.

Megan loved to sing all her life.  In school she sang with the choir and continued to sing with various groups throughout the area.  She was a beloved and faithful member of the Baha’I Faith in Mason County for many years.  Her love for animals led her to her career path and she raised animals of all kinds at her home.  She was a Master Gardener, wrote beautiful poetry, was an accomplished painter, and always enjoyed reading.

Megan was preceded in death by her parents Dr. Austin and Joan Craymer.

Along with her husband Royce, she will be greatly missed by her sister Tricia Mead of Cedar; her sister-in-law Kim Babcock of Ludington; and many good friends made through her faith journey and her career.

A graveside ceremony will be held for Megan at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 9 at Tallman Cemetery in Branch Township.  Those who wish to remember Megan with a memorial donation are asked to please consider any organization that will care for animals.
