CUSTER TOWNSHIP — Three law enforcement agencies were involved in two-county high speed chase that resulted in a crash Monday afternoon. The official details have not yet been released. According to Mason County Sheriff’s Office deputies on scene, the chase involved a Manistee County man and started in northeastern Oceana County. Deputies from Oceana County Sheriff’s Office began chasing the suspect who ended up on 120th Avenue in Oceana County and traveled north as the road turns into Darr Road in Mason County. Upon entering Mason County, deputies from Mason County Sheriff’s Office joined the chase as did troopers from Michigan State Police Hart Post.

The chase continued to Wilson Road where the suspect headed east. He then crashed about 1/4 mile east of Custer Road. The crash occurred about 2:26 p.m.

At the time of the crash, he had reached speeds over 90 mph.

Following the crash, Custer Fire Department and Life EMS were called to provide medical care. The suspect was transported to Corewell Health Ludington Hospital for treatment.

Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast said the suspect’s medical evaluation will determine if he stays at the hospital or is transported to Oceana County Jail.

Oceana County Sheriff’s Office deputies were also assisted on the crash scene by the Mason County Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Team.

More details will be published when they become available.
