Michael “Big Mike” Dennis Griffith, 74, of Ludington, passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2024. He was born July 28, 1949, in Detroit, the son of Jospeh James Griffith and Cecilia Marie Faford.
Michael was a graduate of St. Brigid’s Catholic High School in 1968. Following high school, Michael managed a local Kroger’s before being drafted in the U.S. Army, serving with distinction at the Savanna Army Depot in Illinois during the Vietnam War era. His time in the military police not only exemplified his dedication to duty but also honed his skills in leadership and responsibility.
After his military service, Michael transitioned to civilian life with ease, embarking on a diverse career path. He was an owner and operator for his trucking business, owning his own rig. Later, he drove truck for Van Eerden, and Nussbaum, where he remained for 30 years. His commitment to his work was evident in his reliability and the respect he earned from colleagues and clients alike.
Michael’s passion for the outdoors was unmistakable. He was an avid enthusiast of hiking, fishing, camping, and traveling. His love for nature took him on numerous adventures through the Boundary Waters and beyond. Michael was also a keen enthusiast of motorcycles, quads, cars, and shooting, activities that fueled his adventurous spirit and brought him much joy.
Michael is survived by his son, Alexander Griffith; brother, Richard Griffith; son, Benjamin Evans; and daughter, Sophia Evans.
Michael was preceded in death by his father, Jospeh Griffith; mother, Cecilia Marie Faford; and brother, James Griffith.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Sunday, August 4, 2024, at noon at The Hof Tavern in Free Soil.
