Man found passed out behind the wheel arrested for second-offense OWI

SHERMAN TOWNSHIP — A 27-year-old Custer man was arrested for second-offense operating while intoxicated after he was found passed out behind the wheel of his vehicle Sunday, July 14, at 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of Stephens and Dewey roads, said Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole. He was lodged in the Mason County Jail.

10 a.m., (Michigan State Police), troopers are investigating malicious destruction of property at the Free Soil Township Community Center where vandals spray painted graffiti on the building overnight.

Friday, July 12, 2024:

  • 1:09 a.m., (Mason County Sheriff’s Office), car/deer crash, no injury, US 10 east of Quarterline Road, Amber Township.
  • 11:46 a.m., (MCSO), two-vehicle crash, no injury, Jebavy Drive north of US 10, Pere Marquette Township.
  • 8:02 p.m., (MCSO), car/deer crash, no injury, Jebavy Drive south of Johnson Road, Pere Marquette Township.

Saturday, July 13, 2024:

  • 12:06 a.m., (MCSO), larceny, 300 block of East Wilson Road, Custer Township. The complainant reported the theft of an older four-wheel ORV, utility trailer and boat taken from his property. The case remains under investigation.
  • 9:46 a.m., (MCSO), a 26-year-old Manistee man was arrested on an outstanding failure to appear warrant issued in Mason County, US 31 and Countyline Road, Grant Township.
  • 5:08 p.m., (MCSO), alarm activation, Victory Township.
  • 7:13 p.m., (MCSO), alarm activation, Amber Township.
  • 8:33 p.m., (MCSO), attempted retail fraud, Express Mart, US 10, Pere Marquette Township. The complainant reported three young men attempted to steal a 30 pack of beer, but were stopped by other costumers in the business.
  • 8:47 p.m., (MCSO), a 44-year-old Napples, Maine woman was arrested on charges of retail fraud, possession of fentanyl and an outstanding probation violation warrant issued in Maine on an original charge of possession of an illegal weapon, Walmart, US 10, Pere Marquette Township.
  • 10:37 p.m., (MCSO), alarm activation, Amber Township.
  • 10:38 p.m., (MCSO), car/deer crash, no injury, Schoenherr Road south of Decker Road, Branch Township.

Sunday, July 14, 2024:

  • 7:33 a.m., (MCSO), car/deer crash, no injury, Quarterline Road north of Townline Road, Grant Township.
  • 12:42 p.m., (Ludington Police Department), a 32-year-old Ocean Springs, Mississippi woman was arrested on a warrant issued by Mason County’s 79th District Court following a complaint of a disturbance at Cartier Park, City of Ludington. She was lodged in the Mason County Jail.
  • 2:39 p.m., (MCSO), a 44-year-old Shelby woman was arrested on a felony dangerous drugs warrant issued in Mason County, US 31 and Oceana Drive, Summit Township.
  • 7:14 p.m., (MCSO), larceny, Wilderness Trail, Pere Marquette Township. The complainant reported the theft of a patio set of four chairs, a table and an umbrella.
