LUDINGTON — The Pier, formerly known as The Port, held a grand opening Thursday afternoon. Located at 222 W. Ludington Ave., the multi-business complex includes many of the businesses that existed under the name The Port, along with some new businesses as well. The site was recently purchased by Sarah and Matt Kanitz of Victory Township. The Kanitz’s also own Lake Michigan CPA and Pier-to-Pier Picnics, which is currently located at 127 S. James St. (with its entrance on Loomis Street east of James Street).

“We love Ludington and wanted to expand on the development of this space,” Sarah Kanitz said. “There are a variety of shops and services here and we are excited to support these independent businesses.”

The site includes House and Harbor, Humanitea, Britter’s Twisted Whisk, Rockwell Photography, Pier Gallery, and Pier to Pier Adventures, which rents adventure bicycles and other gear. The site will also be offering art classes.

Kanitz said by the end of summer or early fall Pier to Pier Picnics sandwich and smoothy shop will be re-located to the site as well.

The facility is currently open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Individual businesses’s hours may vary.
