More input wanted for community center survey

June 19, 2024

LUDINGTON — The Community Foundation for Mason County has been in the process of conducted a survey asking county residents about the potential development of a multigenerational community center. While the Foundation has met a measurable goal of 5 percent response, more input is wanted.

The survey aimed to gather input from 5% of Mason County residents, which was recommended from our consultant,” said Andrea Large, executive director of the Foundation. “We are thrilled that the community response has already met that goal. However, as we enter the last two weeks of the survey window, we want to ensure that the survey results reflect the diverse voices and needs of all Mason County residents. We strongly encourage additional participation from all areas throughout the County and diverse age groups.”

The survey is designed to measure community interest in a multigenerational community center and gather insights on the types of social, cultural, recreational, fitness, and educational activities that residents would engage in if such a center were established in Mason County.

“This survey is a critical component of the feasibility study, which will assess the community’s desire for this facility, gather opinions on potential locations, and identify the amenities and services that should be included if the project moves forward,” Large said.

“Multigenerational community centers are envisioned as quality-of-life facilities where people of all ages can engage in diverse activities. These centers aim to foster social connections, provide educational opportunities, and offer recreational and fitness programs tailored to the unique needs of the local community.”

Those wishing to take the survey may click on https://mason-foundation.org/communitysurvey/. Paper surveys are available at the Mason County District Library branches in Ludington and Scottville, all four Mason County senior centers, as well as the Chamber Alliance of Mason County office located at 119 S. Rath Avenue.

The public survey and feasibility initiative is a collaborative effort involving the Community Foundation for Mason County, the County of Mason, the Chamber Alliance of Mason County, Corewell Health Ludington Hospital, Ludington Area Schools, Hamlin Township, Mason County Central Schools, Mason County Eastern Schools, the City of Ludington, Pere Marquette Charter Township, the City of Scottville, Lakeshore Food Club, the District 10 Health Department, and West Shore Community College.
