SCOTTVILLE — Mason County Central Middle School will hold its annual GRIT-Together STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) Night on Thursday, March 14 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. The event is open to middle school students and their families.

This year’s STEAM night is space-themed. The event will provide students with opportunities to apply GRIT (gratitude, resilience, intellectual curiosity and trustworthiness) outside the normal classroom. Inquiry stations will be set up in classrooms where students can explore various STEAM activities such as drones, electromagnets, snap circuits and much more.

This year’s event will include several community partnerships. MiSTEM network has donated several stations including spaghetti space towers. Michigan State University Extension and 4-H will display 3-D printing pens. Health Department District No. 10 will have an information booth. The Lake County Modelers and RC Club will have a drone soccer course set up.

“We love this event because it encompasses so many of the skills the students are learning throughout the middle school,” said seventh grade teacher Jon Hackey.

The event will include hot dogs and drinks in the school cafeteria and door prizes given away beginning at 7 p.m. in the gym.
