Friends of Ludington Police selected as Lake Jump beneficiary

LUDINGTON — Friends of the Ludington Police has been selected by the Ludington Lake Jump board to be this year’s beneficiary of the jump. The jump is scheduled for Saturday, April 27 at Stearns Park beach.

The organization is currently raising funds for a K-9 unit for Ludington Police Department. Ludington Police Chief Chris Jones said a K-9 unit requires an investment between $80,000 to $100,000.

“Most of the expense is for the vehicle, which requires a special kennel along with other K-9-specific features,” Jones said. “We are not expecting the funds for this unit to come from the city’s general fund. Instead, we are hoping to create a non-profit fund that would raise money for the creation of the K-9 unit.”

Mason County Sheriff’s Office currently has a K-9 unit but Jones said there is enough need to justify a K-9 unit in the City of Ludington.
