Obituary: Alice McGinnis, 54, formerly of Scottville
Alice M. McGinnis, 54, of Wheeler, Texas, formerly of Scottville, sadly passed away peacefully on Friday, Dec. 29, 2023 in Amarillo, Texas. Due to her wishes, Alice was cremated and a private celebration of her life will be held at a later date for family and close friends.
Alice was born on Jan. 21, 1969 in Ludington, to the late Antonius and Patricia (DeRooy) Adams. She loved listening to her favorite artists, Jon Bon Jovi and Luke Bryan. Alice never missed an episode of “Survivor” on Thursday nights, or a NASCAR race on Sundays. If she wasn’t watching those two shows, you could find her watching “The Chicago Series”, “The Masked Singer”, or “Grey’s Anatomy.” Whenever reruns of “Criminal Minds” were on, Alice would watch those as well.
During the holidays, you could catch her sitting in her room, relaxing and watching Hallmark movies. Alice also collected unicorns and anything dolphin-related in her free time. Another of Alice’s favorite activities was talking on the phone or FaceTiming with her kids and grandkids. She had the biggest heart and would do anything to see a smile on someone’s face.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Antonius and Patricia Adams; her paternal and maternal grandparents; two aunts, Louise (Fritz) Surplice and MaryAnn DeRooy; and her uncle, Robert DeRooy.
Alice will be greatly missed by her children, Jeremy Hawke of Manistee, Ashley (Alex) Mason of Sault Ste Marie, Mich., and Amber McGinnis (Corey Failing) of Scottville; her grandchildren, Rosalyn and Madelyn Mason; her sisters, Joyce (Chuck) Smith and Sharon (Dale) Holden; her brothers, Larry (Christine) Adams and Bruce Adams; multiple nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles; and her best friend of 42 years, Tressa Steffes.
Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Wheeler, Texas.
