Riemer purchases Chuck Wagon Pizza

LUDINGTON — Dr. Andy Riemer has purchased Chuck Wagon Pizza, 971 N. Lakeshore Dr. Riemer is the owner of Riemer Eye Centers, Stix Ludington restaurant and bowling center in Hamlin Township, and the under-construction AndyS restaurant, 129 W. Ludington Ave.

Chuck Wagon has operated for over 40 years. It was purchased from the Donovan family in 1983 by Rick Chapman who operated the popular pizza place until his death, at the age of 56, on July 19, 2020.

“Riemer is committed to keeping the legacy of the restaurant alive and wants to make the family proud,” a press release from Riemer’s office states. He is purchasing the restaurant from Renee Chapman, Rick Chapman’s wife.

“I wanted to keep Rick’s dream and legacy alive, however it has been difficult for me,” Renee Chapman said.

The restaurant recently closed. It’s Facebook page stated it was closing for the season.

“When Renee decided to close, it was important to have Rick’s Chuck Wagon legacy preserved for the community,” Riemer said. “We want to uphold Rick’s personalized friendly service. We are working closely with Renee to ensure that we keep the community’s favorite and award-winning pizza.”

A re-opening date will be announced in the near future.
