Obituary: Gail Gerbers, 80, of Ludington
Gail Meredith Gerbers, 80, of Ludington, formerly of Edwardsville, Ill., San Francisco, Cali., and Worcester, Mass., passed away peacefully on Saturday December 16, 2023. She was born in Worcester, MA on February 14, 1943, the daughter of John and Marguerite (Ludden) Hosmer.
Gail was a graduate of Worcester Classical High School, class of 1961. After obtaining an associate degree, she briefly worked in Washington D.C., before moving to San Francisco where she worked as a secretary for the Bechtel Corporation.
In San Francisco she met her husband Bill, a Mason County native. Bill had moved to San Francisco to be stationed at Treasure Island during his service in the Marine Corps.
Gail had a diverse and fulfilling career. After settling with Bill in The Midwest in the 1970s, she eventually moved to Ludington in 1990, where she and Bill owned and operated the Lighthouse Motel until 2005. She enjoyed meeting the guests, many of whom were repeat visitors, and she especially enjoyed getting to know the housekeepers who worked there over the years.
In her free time, Gail enjoyed traveling, skiing, reading, and spending time with her beloved dogs. For her oldest son Greg’s entire childhood, she was actively involved in the Down’s Syndrome Association and Special Olympics. Later in life she enjoyed taking Greg to Lakeside Chapel and spending time with her friends in the Beta Sigma Phi sorority.
She is survived by her sons, Greg of Ludington, and Matthew of Kihei, Hawaii.
Gail was preceded in death by her father, John Hosmer; her mother, Marguerite Hosmer; and her husband, Bill Gerbers.
Gail’s warm presence and kind heart will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
