BRANCH TOWNSHIP — Typically, images of one of Mason County’s inland lakes taken at the end of December would include lots of snow and ice. However, on this particular occasion, on Dec. 27, 2023, only gray scales and brilliant reflections prevailed over Gooseneck Lake.
Gooseneck Lake is one of the most easterly lakes in Mason County. The 77 acre lake sits mostly in the Manistee National Forest with a small boat launch located at the end of national forest road 6478 which is accessible from Dunbar Road (between Hansen and Filburn roads). There is public access to the lake from Lanagar Road as well. There are some private residences on the lake as well. It is name Gooseneck Lake because of its shape.
