Haveman to become new LPD captain
LUDINGTON — Ludington Police Sgt. Michael Haveman is set to be promoted to captain, replacing Steve Wietrzykowski, who is retiring effective in early January 2024. City Council is expected to take action on Haveman’s contract during its regular meeting on Monday, Dec. 18.
Haveman was hired by Ludington Police Department in October 2001 and was promoted to sergeant in October 2015. As captain, Haveman will be second in command of the department under Chief Chris Jones. Haveman has been active with several LPD community engagement projects including the community garden at Emmanuel Lutheran Church and a recent skate board tournament held at Stearns Park.
Wietrzykowski has served on LPD for 28 years. Following his retirement, Wietrzykowski will become a police officer with Scottville Police Department.
