Speaker to discuss ‘Reaganomics’ at library Thursday
LUDINGTON — Historian and author Gary Gerstle will discuss the topic “Free Markets: From Ronald Reagan to Barak Obama” on Thursday, Dec. 14 at the Ludington branch of the Mason County District Library, 217 E. Ludington Ave.
The presentation is part of the public series Cairns & Beacons: Finding Our Way in a Post-Pandemic World and is presented by the library and the nonprofit Abondia Center.
Gerstle will narrate the path of what’s often called “Reaganomics” or “neoliberalism.” Gerstle will trace how the economic system started with President Ronald Reagan and continued under the presidencies of fellow Republican presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush. Gerstle will then track how neoliberalism won over Democratic presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama. In the end, from the 1970s to 2008 neoliberalism became how both majority parties envisioned the best economic path for the nation.
The program will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
The presentation is free and available on Zoom from anywhere, and at MCDL’s Ludington branch.
