Obituary: Joan Towns, 86, of Ludington

Joan E. Towns passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2023. She was born in Mason County on April 3, 1937, to Cyril J. and Corinne L. Hemmer. She was baptized at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Custer and confirmed at St Jerome’s Catholic Church in Scottville where she attended and was married. She attended Scottville High School and graduated in 1955. She was married to Eugene L. Towns on September 29, 1956, who preceded her in death on September 9, 1998. Joan and Eugene resided in Ludington for their entire married life. They had four daughters, Kim (Jerry) Bromley, Lorrie (John) O’Connor, Bobbi Jo (Michael) Hawkins, and Stacey Nelson of Muskegon. Joan retired in 1997 from Memorial Medical Center.

In addition to her husband, Joan was preceded in death by her father, mother, one brother, daughter Stacey Nelson, grandson Michael G. Hawkins, several aunts and uncles, and loving companion of several years, Richard E. Wojtaszak, Sr.

Surviving are daughters, Kim Bromley, Lorrie O’Connor, and Bobbi Jo Hawkins; eight grandchildren; great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild’ sister Doris (David) Patterson of Ludington; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held in the spring. Joan will be laid to rest at Pere Marquette Catholic Cemetery.
