Obituary: Nancy Kelley, 80, of Ludington

Nancy Jean Kelley, 80, of Ludington, formerly of Grand Rapids, passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2023. She was born on January 5, 1943, the daughter of Bert and Jean (Adams) Kelley. Nancy graduated from South High School in 1960 and earned a bachelor’s degree from Aquinas College.

During the Vietnam War, Nancy served in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in San Francisco. She was proud of her military service.

After her time in the Navy, Nancy pursued a career in education. She ran her own preschool for 25 years, called Brookhill Montessori. Nancy then went on and taught at Mason County Central’s Victory Early Childhood Center. She finally retired in 2003.

Nancy was an active member of Ludington United Methodist Church, where she worshipped. In her free time, Nancy enjoyed various hobbies, including quilting, birdwatching, church activities like singing, going on mission trips to the Philippines, traveling, savoring a cup of coffee, being in the company of cats, and cheering on the Chicago Cubs.

Nancy is survived by her son, Joseph (Adam) Jurkowski, and her nieces, Elizabeth (Kelley) Root and Heather Kelley.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bert and Jean Kelley, and her brother, Frederic Kelley.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Ludington United Methodist Church or Hospice of Michigan.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at 1 pm at United Methodist Church of Ludington with visitation starting at noon.
