Dear Editor
We have an opportunity to do the right thing for our community next month. Mason County Central has two important bond issues on the November 7 ballot and- though the rationale is compelling and extensive- here are just a few reasons these proposals deserve your support:
- Critical building entrance updates are needed- to secure our children’s safety
- Many spaces in the high school have not been upgraded since it was originally built- 64 years ago, when Dwight D. Eisenhower was President
- The district listened to voter feedback- overall scope and cost of the projects have been reduced
- Since 2017, over $6 million in district renovations have been accomplished without asking taxpayers for more- MCC has been good stewards of public money
- The current MCC district tax rate is the lowest in recent history- now is the perfect time to take on these improvements
- During winter sports season, some teams are forced to hold practices until 9pm (on school nights…) due to limited gym space in the district- Proposal 2 would benefit athletics as well as performing arts by converting the current gym/auditorium to a full-use gym
This list could go on but at the end of the day- it’s never the wrong time, to do the right thing. We have the opportunity to do the right thing…for our children, our grandchildren, our neighbors, and the community. For all these reasons- and many more- we urge you to Vote Yes on November 7.
