Obituary: Edwin Thompson, 87, of Ludington

Edwin Stuart Thompson, 87, of Ludington, formerly of Canton, Ohio, passed away on Monday, October 16, 2023.

Edwin was born on August 24, 1936 in Canton, the son of Arthur and Nora Thompson. He graduated from Ludington High School with the class of 1955 and retired from Dow Chemical in 1990 after 30 years of dedicated service. He also enjoyed his time working on the Ludington car ferries.

Edwin was an active man who loved to boogie. He was a member of Custer Boot Scooters and taught line dancing. He was also a music DJ at various events throughout the community. Edwin wasn’t one to sit around. He could often be found playing golf, basketball, tennis, table tennis, racquetball, running, and going for walks. He enjoyed quiet time at the beach and the Ludington State Park, or by watching football on TV.

Edwin is survived by his children, William (Lisa) Thompson and Mandi (Jim) Furstenberg; grandchildren, Jason (Jessica) Thompson, Tessa (Elijah) Andrews, Jamie (Dan) Furstenberg Hedges, and Jesse (Courtney) Furstenberg; great-grandchildren, Jackson, Westley and Eleanora Andrews, and Charlotte and Ryker Thompson; good friend and life partner, Glenna Dray; and his ex-wife, Sally McDole Strubble.

A funeral for Edwin will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Oak Grove Funeral Home of Ludington with visitation starting at 10 am. He will be laid to rest in the family mausoleum at Lakeview Cemetery.
