Obituary: Delbert Thorne, 85, of Ludington

Delbert “Del” John Thorne, 85, of Ludington, passed away on Saturday, October 7, 2023. Del was born September 26, 1938, the son of John Edward Thorne and Helen (Miel) Thorne.

On June 10, 1961, Del married the love of his life, Mary Ann (Surplice) Thorne. He worked at several local factories during his lifetime until his retirement in 2000.

A true outdoorsman, Del enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Deer Brothers, Fraternal Order of Eagles, and the Moose Lodge.

Del is survived by his son, Steve Thorne; brothers, Gerald (Carol) Thorne, and Robert (Lola) Thorne; grandchildren, Mike, Brad, and Tim Thorne, and Natalie Porter; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Del was preceded in death by his daughter, Christine Kaye Thorne; parents, John and Helen Thorne; sister, Dorothy Comstock; and loving wife, Mary Ann (Surplice) Thorne.

Memorial contributions in Del’s honor can be made payable to Gerald Thorne to help with funeral expenses.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Oak Grove Funeral Home of Ludington with a luncheon to follow. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. A public graveside service with the family will be held at 2 p.m. at Tallman Cemetery, north of Walhalla, in Sheridan Township.
