Work underway on Badger’s ramp

LUDINGTON — Crews are currently working on repairing the SS Badger’s loading ramp. On Friday, July 21, at the Ludington dock, one of the two lifting structures for the ramp used to load and unload the ship collapsed into Pere Marquette Lake. There were no injuries to people nor was there damage to the ramp, ship or vehicles. The damage has caused the ship’s service to be temporarily suspended.

On Tuesday, July 25, marine contractors began removing the old ramp lifting equipment, preparing for the installation of a new lifting device.

“While we do not have an exact timeframe, our hope is to have the vessel back in service within the next few weeks,” a press release from Lake Michigan Carferry stated.
