Muskegon man, 19, arrested following Manistee shooting

MANISTEE — Several Mason County agencies assisted today in the search, investigation and apprehension of a 19-year-old Muskegon man who was arrested by the Manistee Police Department following a shooting incident that took place in the city. According to Manistee Police Chief Joshua Glass, law enforcement was dispatched at 12:36 p.m. today, June 16, for a report of a shooting in the 200 block of 5th Street.
“Officers responded to the scene and located a 36-year-old Traverse City man who had suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen,” Glass said in a press release. “Witness statements indicate the suspect fled on foot and was accompanied by two other individuals. Law enforcement from Manistee and surrounding counties established a perimeter and began efforts to locate the individuals.”
At 1:40 p.m. Manistee County Central Dispatch received an additional call of a potential second shooting in the 900 block of Vine Street.
“Upon arrival at the Vine Street location, officers located a 19-year-old Muskegon man who had sustained two gunshot wounds to his extremities. At this time, investigators believe the injuries sustained by both subjects were from the initial incident on 5th Street and there was no second shooting incident,” Glass stated. “Two other individuals were located and questioned regarding their involvement in this incident.”
The 36-year-old Traverse City man was transported by helicopter to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. His current status is listed as critical. THe 19-year-old Muskegon man was transported to Munson Healthcare Manistee Hospital and is listed in stable condition.
“This is a fluid investigation and is still ongoing,” Glass said. “At the time of this release there is no ongoing threat to the public. This investigation at this point indicates these individuals were known to each other and this was not a random act of violence.”
In addition to Manistee Police Department, agencies assisting included Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Ludington Police Department, Mason County Emergency Management, Life EMS, Mason-Oceana 911, Manistee County Sheriff’s Office, Little River Band of Ottawa Indians Department of Public Safety, Michigan State Police, SSCENT (drug enforcement team), Manistee Fire Department, Manistee County Emergency Management, Manistee Department of Public Works, Mobile Medical Response ambulance, Michigan Department of Natural Resources law enforcement, Benzie County Sheriff’s Office, and AeroMed.
