Ludington council to continue Stearns Park parking fee discussion
By Rob Alway, Editor-in-Chief
LUDINGTON — The topic of whether the City of Ludington should charge parking fees at Stearns Park has been brought up again. The topic was most recently discussed in 2018 with no action by council at that time. Recently, the city’s Cemetery, Parks, and Recreation/Waterfront Committee began debating the topic.
During Monday’s regular City Council meeting, three citizens spoke against charging parking fees and one citizen spoke in favor. Previous discuss was for non-residents to be charged daily or seasonal rates.
Fourth Ward Councilor Cheri Stibitz, who chairs the parks committee, made a motion Monday to schedule a committee-as-a-whole meeting, which would allow the council to dedicate an entire meeting discuss the topic and receive more public feedback.
Stibitz said no decisions have been made about parking fees at Stearns Park and the council welcomes public feedback. The meeting date was not set during Monday’s regular meeting.
