Schools placed in lockdown

Mason County schools have been placed in a soft lockdown about 1:40 p.m. today. There is currently a large police presence at Mason County Central Schools and Gateway to Success Academy in Scottville with Scottville Police Department, Mason County Sheriff’s Office and Michigan State Police. MCP will post more details as they become available.

Unconfirmed reports are stating that a student presented a gun in the Mason County Central parking lot and then left.

An email from Mason County Central Schools states: “All schools are currently in a soft lockdown out of an abundance of caution. There is no immediate threat to students. School will dismiss as normal, with a police presence while we investigate an off-campus situation. We will provide an update within the hour.”

Law enforcement is searching for a vehicle. There will be a police presence at  all county schools during student pick-up.

Update: Unconfirmed report that one person related to the case is in police custody.
