Fountain man dies during Tallman area crash

SHERIDAN TOWNSHIP — A 53-year-old Fountain area man died during a vehicle crash that occurred Friday afternoon, Jan. 27. According to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole, emergency personnel were dispatched to Stolberg Road near Tallman Lake Road at 5:57 p.m. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a 2007 Pontiac G6 had been traveling westbound on Stolberg Road when it ran off the road and struck a tree, causing minor damage to the vehicle. 

The 53-year-old driver was found unresponsive in the vehicle. 

“Despite medical attention, the driver passed away at the scene,” Cole said. “It is believed the driver passed away as a result of a medical emergency and not from injuries sustained in the crash.” 

Emergency crews responding to the crash included Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police, Fountain Area Fire Department, and Life EMS. 

Cole said the crash remains under investigation.
