Small plane crashes at Mason County Airport
PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — A single engine airplane crashed on the north-south runway at Mason County Airport Sunday morning. Emergency crews from Pere Marquette Fire Department, Ludington Fire Department and Life EMS were dispatched at 11:49 a.m. A few minutes later, Mason-Oceana 911 disregarded the units, except with the request of one fire truck, reporting that there were no injuries and no hazardous material emergency.
According to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole, the front landing gear of the plane gave out upon landing, causing the airplane’s nose to make contact with the runway. The Federal Aviation Administration has been called to investigate.
Damage of the crash appears to be minimal.
