By Rob Alway, Editor-in-Chief
PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — Janet Anderson was unanimously re-elected chair of the Mason County Board of Commissioners during the commission’s regular January meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 10. Anderson has served as board chair since 2019, the first woman in Mason County to serve in that position.
“I appreciate the vote of confidence of my fellow commissioners. we have a big year coming up in 2023 and look forward working with everyone,” Anderson said.
The chair term is for one year.
Steve Hull was elected vice chair of the commission by four votes. Lew Squires had also been nominated to serve as vice chair, receiving three votes.
One of the biggest tasks the commission will be tackling over the next year is its search for a new administrator. In November 2022, County Administrator Fabian Knizacky announced that he would be retiring on Feb. 28, 2024. Knizacky was selected to be the county’s first administrator and started with Mason County on February 1, 1994. Additionally, the county commission is pursuing bringing broadband services throughout the county.
