BRANCH TOWNSHIP — A 30-year-old Mason County man faces charges of fleeing and eluding police and assaulting/resisting/obstructing police after leading Mason County sheriff’s deputies on a car chase that ended at the dead end of a two track and the suspect being tased early Thursday morning, July 14, according to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.
“On Thursday, July 14, 2022 at 5:04 a.m., Mason County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to a ‘suspicious person’ call on Walhalla Road near South Street in Mason County’s Branch Township,” states Sheriff Cole in a press release. “The original call was a male subject behind the wheel of a vehicle ‘not alert.’
“As a sheriff deputy pulled up to the vehicle, the driver drove away, southbound on Walhalla Road with no lights on,” states Cole. “As the deputy was attempting the catch up with the vehicle, it crossed the centerline nearly striking a northbound vehicle head-on.
“The suspect fled southbound on Walhalla Road to Kinney Road and then westbound down a federal forest two track for several miles before coming to a dead end in the trail. The suspect refused commands to exit the vehicle and fought with deputies before a taser was deployed. The suspect was then taken into custody.
The man was lodged in the Mason County Jail. An investigation is ongoing for an additional charge of operating under the influence of drugs.
