Man receives jail, probation for stalking.
By Rob Alway, Editor-in-Chief.
LUDINGTON — Clinton Duane Franklin, 45, of Sherman Township, was sentenced to five years probation, along with 12 months in jail, serving 10 months up front — with credit for 190 days served — on the charge of aggravated stalking during proceedings in 51st Circuit Court Tuesday, May 10, 2022.
Franklin was arrested on Oct. 29, 2021 by Ludington Police Department for stalking and also for manufacturing a controlled substance (methamphetamine), while another court case of possession of methamphetamine was pending from a Feb. 12, 2021 arrest by LPD.
During today’s sentencing for stalking, the victim, a 44-year-old Ludington woman, spoke about the numerous situations where Franklin stalked and harassed her and her teenaged son. Judge Susan Sniegowski said she hadn’t heard some of the accusations previously and that the victim’s impact statement helped solidify her judgement.
Sniegowski ordered Franklin to have no contact with the victim, her son or her immediate family in any way including verbal, written, electronic or physical, either directly or through another person. He also cannot be within 500 feet of the residence or place of employment of the victim, her son, or immediate family.
Clinton was sentenced on Nov. 19, 2021 to 90 days in jail with credit for 20 days time served on the charge of possession of methamphetamine. One charge of habitual offender, second offense, was dropped per plea agreement.
He also has previous arrests for resisting, obstructing a police officer, retail fraud, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, among others.
