FREE SOIL TOWNSHIP — Two people injured in a three vehicle crash Tuesday morning, Jan. 18, 2022, on US 31 between Townline and Freeman roads. The crash was reported at 8:18 a.m.
According to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole, the crash occurred after a northbound Ford Escape rear-ended a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck that was stopped to make a left turn into a private driveway. Following that collision, the pickup was pushed into the southbound lane where it collided with a southbound Mercedes SUV.
The driver of the Escape was trapped in the vehicle and had to be freed with the Grant Township Fire Department’s extrication equipment (Jaws of Life). Two people, including the driver of the Escape, were transported by Life EMS to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries
Emergency units responding to the scene included Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Free Soil/Meade Fire Department, Grant Township Fire Department, Fountain Area Fire Department, and Life EMS. The Mason County Road Commission also assisted at the scene clearing debris.
US 31 was shut down for about an hour during the crash.
