CUSTER TOWNSHIP — The Mason County Road Commission is changing the intersection of Wilson and Tuttle roads to a four-way stop effective Thursday, Jan. 20. According to a press release from the road commission, the intersection was investigated by the county highway engineer, Eric Nelson, who determined there was insufficient sight distance on Wilson Road east of the intersection with Tuttle Road.

“Based on the guidance of the ‘Michigan Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices’ and the ‘Standards Governing Use of Stop Signs by Municipalities’ a four-way stop will be installed at this intersection,” Nelson stated. “The engineering study conducted the county highway engineer concluded that based on locations where a road user, after stopping cannot see conflicting traffic and is not able to reasonably safely negotiate the intersection unless conflicting cross traffic is also required to stop.”

Currently, east-west Wilson Road traffic has the right-of-way through the intersection with north-south traffic on Tuttle Road stops.
