Ludington police warn of scam. 

LUDINGTON — The Ludington Police Department is warning people of a telephone scammer who is using the name of Ludington Police Department Capt. Steve Wietrzykowski. According to a Facebook post by Wietrzykowski, the scammer is using his name to tell people their son/daughter is involved in drugs and that “my men found the pot with your relative’s name on it” and provides a phone number to call.

Wietrzykowski, said the scammer can even pronounce his four-syllable name, which makes it more convincing.

“If your family member was involved in drugs I would call you directly from the police department or you would get an in-person visit from one of our men or women in uniform,” Wietrzykowski said in his post. “The message sent out also says ‘Merry Christmas’. That part I agree with.”

If anyone gets a similar message, call Mason-Oceana 911 at 231-869-5858 or call Wietrzykowski on Tuesday, Dec. 28, at LPD, 231-843-3425. Do not call any other numbers listed.
