Ambulance involved in Saturday crash.

By Rob Alway, Editor-in-Chief.

PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — A 16-year-old Ludington girl was injured Saturday evening following a vehicle crash on the Pere Marquette Highway railroad viaduct. Road conditions were icy during that time and a car spun out of control and struck a guardrail. A few minutes later, that vehicle was struck by a southbound Life EMS ambulance, which was transporting a “priority one” patient from Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital to Mercy Health in Muskegon.

The crash occurred about 7 p.m.

Prior to the arrival of responding emergency personnel, one of the ambulance personnel stated over the radio that the inside of the ambulance had caught fire; that information has not been confirmed. Another ambulance arrived to transfer the original patient while the 16-year-old  involved in the crash was transported to Ludington hospital.

Responding emergency units included Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Pere Marquette Township Fire Department, Ludington Fire Department and Life EMS.
