Man sentenced to time served for assaulting pregnant wife.

LUDINGTON — A 28-year-old Pere Marquette Township man was sentenced to 10 days in jail with credit for 10 days served for a third-offense domestic violence conviction in 51st Circuit Court Tuesday, Oct. 5.
Gregory Alexander Jolly, of 5728 W. Johnson Rd., pleaded “no contest” to third-offense domestic violence, Aug. 6, after assaulting his pregnant wife last March.
“A significant weakness or concern that stands out is his alcohol use,” said Mason County Prosecutor Lauren Kreinbrink. Jolly, who was intoxicated at the time of the offense, struck his wife in the head, neck and torso while in a car, said the prosecutor. The couple’s 3-year-old daughter was also in the vehicle and witnessed the assault, she said.
“My client understands what he did was wrong, and he is remorseful,” said Jolly’s attorney, Al Swanson, Jr. Jolly is undergoing alcohol treatment and will continue to receive treatment, said Swanson. “He understands his wife can’t endure this behavior from him.”
Sentencing guidelines in the case are 0-11 months, said Judge Susan K. Sniegowski. The Michigan Department of Corrections recommended a jail term of 10 days, said the judge, who also ordered 18 months probation.
The victim asked that the “no contact” order be lifted, and the judge allowed it. “But any time she asks for it to be reinstated, it will be,” Judge Sniegowski added.
Jolly entered a “no contest” plea because he has “no recollection due to intoxication,” said his previous attorney Dawn Goodwin.
Jolly has two previous domestic violence convictions.
