Obituary: Robert Miller, 81, of Baldwin.

Robert E. Miller, 81, of Baldwin, passed peacefully at his home on July 17, 2021 with his daughter, granddaughter, and beloved cat, Ace, by his side.

Bob was born on September 18, 1939, in La Porte, Indiana, the only child of Helen (Baumann) and Robert W. Miller. A faithful Roman Catholic family, Bob was always proud of his catholic upbringing.  In 1946 the family relocated to Battle Creek, where Bob graduated from Battle Creek Central High School with the class of 1958.  In 1959, Bob enlisted with the U.S. Marine Corps and was stationed in San Diego, Cali. until 1963. Bob started working for Post Cereal in 1958 where he would stay until his retirement 36 years later.

On December 16, 1972, Bob married his wife, Donna in Battle Creek and they were able to spend 46 years together.  In 1998, Bob and Donna, along with his mother, Helen, moved to Baldwin to live out their golden years. They loved camping, hunting, fishing, and spending time with their family and friends. They became known for their yearly “Getaway Weekends” that they hosted every August for 15 years.

In retirement, Bob was an active member of the Duane E. Dewey Amvets Post 1988 where he served on the Executive Board and as a member of the Lake County Honor Guard. He was also a member of the Polish National Alliance #2416 in Battle Creek, and the Loyal Order of Moose.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, wife Donna, and by two of his sons – Charlie and Ricky.

He will be greatly missed by his daughter Michelle (Don) Wilson of Dayton, Tenn.; son Robert (Kathy) Miller of Battle Creek; stepson Jeff (Mike) Birch of East Lyme, Conn.; stepson Tod (Lori) Birch of Lexington, Ky.; eight grandchildren, and 13 great-grand children.

Funeral services will be held for Bob at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 21 at Wyman Funeral & Cremation Services in Scottville with military rites to follow by the Lake County Honor Guard.  Friends may meet with his family for a time of visitation on Wednesday morning from 10:00 am until time of services at the funeral home.  Bob will be interred with his wife Donna at Fort Custer National Cemetery at a later date.
