Sexual assault against child tops District Court arraignments

LUDINGTON — The following were recently arraigned in Mason County’s 79^th District Court:

Felonies

Mayse

-Alexander Cole Mayse, 21, of 7015 N. 120^th Ave., Hart, was arrested Dec. 23 by the Mason County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) on two felony counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct (victim between 13-16 years old). Probable cause hearing: Jan. 6 at 1:30 p.m. Bail: $50,000 cash.

A 20-year-old Hart man was sentenced to jail in 51st Circuit Court Tuesday, July 21, for a conviction of attempted first-degree criminal sexual conduct (CSC).

Alexander Cole Mayse, of 8977 N. 120th Ave., pleaded guilty, May 12.

On July 22, 2020, Mayse was sentenced in Mason County’s 51st Circuit Court by Judge Susan K. Sniegowski to serve 141 days up front of a one-year discretionary jail term with credit for 141 days served. Mayse was required to register as a sex offender and serve five years probation.

The victim in that crime was a 12-year-old girl, and the incident occurred last summer in the City of Ludington, said Mason County Prosecutor Paul Spaniola.

One count of first-degree CSC, which is punishable by up to life in prison, was dismissed in exchange for his plea. The maximum penalty for attempted first-degree CSC is five years in prison.

-Seth Eric Rydstrom, 18, of 923 Vine St., Manistee; Dec. 21; MCSO; domestic violence. Pretrial: Jan. 11 at 11:30 a.m. Bail: $2,500/10 percent.

-Joshua Everett Smith, 39, of 1038 Lancer Ln., Pere Marquette Township; Dec. 20; MCSO; operating a vehicle while intoxicated (OWI). Pretrial: Feb. 1 at 1 p.m. Bail: $150 cash.

-Raymond Jeffrey Lewis, 33, of 11671 Heron Dr., Lakeview; Dec. 18; Michigan State Police (MSP); second offense larceny less than $200. Pretrial: Jan. 11 at 11:15 a.m. Bail: $2,500 personal recognizance. 

-Richard Massey Thomas, 34, of 410 S. Washington Ave., Ludington; Dec. 17; Ludington Police Department (LPD); public intoxication. Pretrial: Jan. 25 at 10:15 a.m. Bail: $2,500 personal recognizance.

-Orville Joseph Simmons, 48, of 504 Dowland St., Ludington; Dec. 16; LPD; trespassing. Pretrial: Jan. 11 at 11 a.m. Bail: $2,500/10 percent.
