SHERIDAN TOWNSHIP — Five fire departments fought a fire that destroyed a house Saturday afternoon. Fountain Area Fire Department and Free Soil/Meade Fire Department were called to the Jame Janicki residence at 6916 E. Millerton Road on the shore of Picnic Lake at 3:51 p.m. Upon arrival the first unit on scene reported the house was fully engulfed in flames. No injuries were reported, no one was home when the fire started.

Additional units were called in from Grant Township Fire Department, Branch Fire Department and Custer Fire Department. Also on scene were Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police, U.S. Forest Service law enforcement, and Fountain Area Fire Department Auxiliary.

Fountain Fire Chief Roger Berndt said he requested Scottville Police Chief Matt Murphy, who is a certified fire inspector, to inspect the fire. Murphy concluded that the fire was accidental.
