MCC Forensics team takes first place in Birch Run event.
BIRCH RUN — Mason County Central High School’s Forensics Team took first place on Saturday, Feb. 8, during a tournament at Birch Run High School. Sixteen schools participated in the event. Twenty-three events were in semi-finals and 14 events were finalists. Results included:
- Jennie Golazewski, first place sales.
- Elsa Akins, first place oratory
- Ryland Gigante, first place, dramatic interpretation
- Josh Gordon/Greyson Reid, second place duo
- Eddie Akins, second place poetry
- Sophia Edmondson, Makenzie Geronimo, Sara Abbott, Kylee Dacey second place multiple
- Cloe Frederick, second place poetry 9/10
- Olivia Donahue, third place oratory
- Nicole Bowen, third place prose
- Katelynn Ross, fourth place sales
- Sam Gillette, fourth place extemporaneous
- Emily Abbott, sixth place broadcasting
- Brendon Roberton, sixth place extemporaneous 9/10
- Willow Cross, sixth place poetry 9/10
On Saturday, Feb. 1, the team traveled to the Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti and competed with some of the best teams in the eastern part of the state. The team took home the third place team trophy (large school), second place was taken by Wylie Groves High School and first place by Bloomfield High School.
Twelve individual events were semi-finalists, and eight individual events were finalists. The results were:

The team will travel to Beaverton on Saturday, Feb. 15 to defend last year’s team’s first place results.
Coach Tom Richert said he is very impressed with this well rounded team and that he is excited to see what they can accomplish this season. He is assisted by Nate Petersen, and Scott Sturgill.
