LUDINGTON — The newly rebuilt birthing center at Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital was dedicated Tuesday afternoon. The recently completed $4.95 million project included a complete upgrade from the original center, built in 1967. Highlights included demolition of the 8,920 square feet space, enlarging and modernizing patient rooms, in-room Americans with Disabilities Act compliant bathrooms and showers, including two rooms with whirlpool tubs for use in labor.

The changes also included improved security, staff and physician work area improvements, three new labor/delivery/postpartum rooms with bathrooms, five postpartum rooms with bathrooms, and many more.

Donations paid for $1.3 million of the project, a large portion of which were raised by SHLH volunteers and employees.
