Obituary: Patrick Smith, 62, Ludington.
Patrick William Smith, 62, of Ludington, formerly of Marquette, passed away Saturday, December 14, 2019 at his home. He was born October 15, 1957 in Marquette to James Anthony and Margaret Elizabeth (Menhennick) Smith. Patrick graduated from Marquette Senior High School in 1974. He went on to study history at Northern Michigan University for two years. Patrick spent several years working for the Marquette County Courthouse in Marquette. Patrick moved to Madison, Wis. where he worked at Interior Investments installing office furniture and later became their warehouse supervisor. He moved to Ludington five years ago to be closer to family. Upon moving to Ludington he worked at several local manufactures before landing a position again working with office furniture at Metalworks.
Patrick was an amazing bass guitarist and played in many bands over the years such as Cold Shot, Nouveau Riche, Radio Active and Queen City Rockers to name a few. He was willing to mentor anyone who was willing to learn. He once opened for Charlie Daniels and Cheap Trick among many others.
Patrick was an avid reader and loved learning about history. He was a lifelong Packers fan. He had an amazing sense of humor and a dry wit and loved his family, especially his nieces and nephews.
Patrick will be greatly missed by his sisters, Mary Kathleen Shannon of Austin Texas and Margaret Morkert of Ludington; his sister-in-law, Patricia Laine; his nieces and nephews, James, Brian, Kari Morkert, Kyrin Maijala, Suzy Green, Erica Smith, Amanda Pool, Mary Jeffrey; and many great-nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Patrick was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra L. Smith; brothers, James Thomas Smith and Donald Alva Smith.
According to his wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held in the summer in Marquette.
Memorial contributions in Patrick’s name may be directed to the Spectrum Health Renucci Hospitality House in Grand Rapids.
